Motorola has announced an interesting Android-powered smartphone for China Mobile today. The Motorola MT870 is the world’s first dual-core smartphone to be able to access China Mobile’s TD-SCDMA network, which is that particular carrier’s rather unique flavor of 3G.
The Motorola MT870 has a dual-core 1 GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, a 4-inch qHD (540×960) capacitive touchscreen, an 8 MP autofocus rear camera with dual-LED flash and 720p HD video recording, a secondary front-facing VGA camera, 1080p HD video playback, the aforementioned 3G support, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth, HDMI out, DLNA, 8 GB internal storage space, microSD card support, GPS, 512 MB of RAM, and an 1880 mAh battery. The phone runs Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread.
The Motorola MT870 comes with Motorola and China Mobile’s brand new combined app store called Shop4Apps, which offers a ‘huge’ number of apps designed specifically for the Chinese market. The phone also comes with various China Mobile services such as Fetion, TeleNav, 139 Mail, and CMMB. It has QuickOffice, Sticky Notes, and business card scanning apps preinstalled.
The Motorola MT870 will become available from authorized Motorola resellers and China Mobile’s stores across China sometime in July for the recommended retail price of RMB 4,680 (that’s approximately $725 or €500 at today’s exchange rates).
